Se ha reportado que la incidencia de hemorragia subaracnoidea por aneurismas (HSAA) oscila de dos a 16 casos por cada 100,000 habitantes; existen variaciones regionales y étnicas; la frecuencia más alta se ha reportado en Finlandia con 22.5 casos por 100,000 habitantes y la menor en China con 2.2 casos por 100,000; se considera que en Centro y Sudamérica existe una baja incidencia. Cuando se comparan los aspectos económicos se demuestra que la incidencia casi se duplica en los países con bajos y medianos ingresos en relación con los países económicamente desarrollados.
