La AMPK y la homeostasis energética

RESUMEN
Debido a la necesidad de mantener la homeostasis
energética en los organismos, es una prioridad para los
seres vivos el contar con una enzima capaz de evaluar el
contenido energético celular. En células animales, la
Cinasa Activada por AMP, AMPK (por sus siglas en
inglés) es una enzima que regula algunos procesos
metabólicos de acuerdo al estado energético; se activa
durante el ejercicio, diabetes tipo II, obesidad y anoxia
por lo que ha sido propuesta como un regulador metabólico
durante condiciones energéticas anormales. Esta enzima es
un complejo heterotrimérico que se activa alostéricamente
por AMP, sin embargo para su completa activación
necesita ser fosforilada por una cinasa río arriba conocida
como LKB1. En todos los eucariontes analizados se
encuentran complejos ortólogos a AMPK, lo que sugiere
una alta conservación funcional en el control metabólico.
