Fracturas del fémur proximal. Opciones de tratamiento

RESUMEN
Las fracturas de fémur proximal representan un motivo de consulta frecuente en centros hospitalarios en pacientes mayores de 65 años. Este tipo de lesiones se producen generalmente ante traumas por caída de baja altura en los pacientes mayores, en razón a una gran cantidad de factores predisponentes presente en ese grupo etario. Diversas clasificaciones han sido descritas; sin embargo, el limite anatómico de la cápsula articular del fémur proximal es definitivo y en términos generales permite clasificarlas como intracapsulares y extracapsulares. En la práctica ortopédica actual el tratamiento médico de estas lesiones prácticamente no tiene cabida y es el tratamiento quirúrgico el que ofrece los mejores resultados. La resolución quirúrgica de las fracturas de fémur proximal implica la utilización de una variedad de implantes cuya elección está sujeta a una serie de factores que dependen no sólo del tipo de fractura sino de situaciones inherentes a cada paciente en particular. El objetivo de esta revisión es encontrar consensos alrededor del tratamiento de las fracturas del fémur proximal.
