Henry G Kunkel y el mieloma múltiple

RESUMEN
La historia del estudio del mieloma múltiple se remonta a mediados del siglo XIX con la descripción de los primeros pacientes con la enfermedad. A partir de ese momento sobrevino una revolución en las áreas de la Medicina, Inmunología y Química que trajo consigo el descubrimiento de la estructura de las proteínas, novedosas técnicas de laboratorio y con ello, un hallazgo magistral por Henry Kunkel que cambió radicalmente la concepción que prevalecía sobre la fisiopatogenia del mieloma. El presente trabajo precisa los sucesos que llevaron a dilucidar la estructura química de las proteínas secretadas por células plasmáticas malignas.
