RESUMEN
Con el advenimiento de la cirugía endoscópica los cambios en la cirugía general se han suscitado constantemente siempre en aras de una atención efectiva y de calidad a los pacientes, pero menos traumática. Mientras que en algunos terrenos los procedimientos endoscópicos son ya el “estándar de oro”, en otros la controversia ha persistido hasta la fecha. Tal ha sido el caso de la cirugía del cáncer colorrectal por vía miniinvasiva. El día de hoy existe evidencia de que este tipo de enfermedades pueden ser tratadas mediante procedimientos endoscópicos. El presente trabajo resume de forma práctica algunos de los trabajos más importantes en relación al tema, así como conceptos y conclusiones vertidos en un consenso de expertos sobre cáncer del colon y cirugía endoscópica durante el VIII Congreso Internacional de la Asociación Europea de Cirugía Endoscópica en Niza, Francia, 2000.
