RESUMEN
La Principal razón por la cual los pacientes se admiten a Unidades de Cuidado Intensivo es recibir soporte ventilatorio. Revisiones de los principios básicos de la ventilación mecánica han sido hechas a nivel tanto internacional, como nacional, así como actualizaciones y avances recientes. Nosotros pretendemos crear unas guías de cómo debe manejarse una U. C. C. R., entendiéndose como tal una Unidad de Cuidado Crítico dedicada fundamentalmente a la asistencia ventilatoria, como eje principal de su función. Dicha Unidad funciona en un Hospital Universitario y da asistencia a una población cubierta por el Sistema de Seguridad Social (C. C. S. S.) en un país del tercer mundo (C. R.) Este documento incluye aspectos técnicos y no técnicos de V. M. A. y Cuidado Crítico.
