Coxib: una alternativa terapéutica factible en pacientes con intolerancia o hipersensibilidad al ácido acetilsalicílico, antiinflamatorios no esteroideos y paracetamol

RESUMEN
El ácido acetilsalicílico (AAS) o aspirina, los antiinflamatorios no esteroideos (AINE) y el acetaminofén o paracetamol son los medicamentos más utilizados a nivel mundial para el manejo del dolor, inflamación y fiebre que acompañan a una gran variedad de padecimientos agudos y crónicos. Pese a sus propiedades analgésicas, antiinflamatorias y antipiréticas, se han asociado a una gama de efectos adversos, los cuales están mediados fundamentalmente por los mismos mecanismos que logran el control del dolor, la inflamación y la fiebre. Un problema relativamente frecuente con el empleo de AINE o AAS o paracetamol es el desarrollo de intolerancia y diversas reacciones de hipersensibilidad, situación para la cual se han propuesto diversas alternativas, entre ellas el empleo de los inhibidores específicos de la ciclooxigenasa 2, modalidad terapéutica analizada en el presente trabajo.
