Prevalencia de prescripción de medicamentos potencialmente inapropiados a la población geriátrica de un hospital privado de la Ciudad de México

RESUMEN
Objetivo: conocer la prevalencia de prescripción de fármacos potencialmente inapropiados a pacientes ≥ 65 años del Centro Hospitalario Nuevo Sanatorio Durango como se definen en los criterios de Beers 2002.
Materiales y método: estudio observacional, retrospectivo y transversal en el que se evaluaron los expedientes de los pacientes ≥ 65 años que ingresaron a los servicios médicos y quirúrgicos durante el año 2010.
Resultados: la prevalencia de indicación de cuando menos un medicamento inapropiado fue de 41%. Lo más común fue prescribir un solo fármaco potencialmente inapropiado durante la hospitalización (38.7%) y con menor frecuencia tres fármacos potencialmente inapropiados al momento del egreso. Los medicamentos más comúnmente prescritos fueron: ketorolaco (59%), butilhioscina (9.45%) y digoxina (4.5%). Los servicios quirúrgicos fueron los que más indicaron fármacos potencialmente inapropiados, de ellos: ortopedia (66.7%), seguido por cirugía (62%).
Conclusiones: la prescripción de medicamentos potencialmente inapropiados fue tan alta como la referida en la bibliografía internacional y mayor a la nacional. En general, sólo se indicó un fármaco potencialmente inapropiado y el ketorolaco fue el más prescrito. En los servicios quirúrgicos es donde se indicaron más medicamentos potencialmente inapropiados.
