Herramientas auxiliares de diagnóstico en neurocisticercosis

RESUMEN
A pesar del avance en el estudio de las enfermedades parasitarias para la comprensión de su ciclo biológico; la farmacoterapia y los métodos auxiliares de diagnóstico la neurocisticercosis (NCC); sigue siendo un gran problema de salud pública en México y otras regiones de Latinoamérica. Dado que las manifestaciones clínicas propias de esta enfermedad pueden ser pleomórficas (cefalea, epilepsia, hipertensión intracraneal, déficit motores, alteraciones neuropsiquiátricas o movimientos anormales) es mandatorio contar con métodos auxiliares de diagnóstico, donde la neuroimagen constituye un importante pilar en el diagnóstico de esta patología. Las imágenes de resonancia magnética (RM) ponderadas en T1 y T2 constituyen hoy en día la herramienta más sensible y específica para el diagnóstico de NCC; a pesar de ello, en circunstancias particulares no es posible definir los parásitos vesiculares entre otras lesiones quísticas, por lo que las secuencias de RM como FLAIR (Fluid Attenuation Inversion Recovery), FIESTA (Fast imaging Employing STeady-state Acquisition) y espectroscopia han demostrado su utilidad.
