Proteina de Tamm-Horsfall: Implicaciones Clínicas en la Vía Urinaria

RESUMEN
La glicoproteína de Tamm-Horsfall (THP) o uromodulin, es la proteína más abundante de la vía urinaria, se excreta en una cantidad de 50-100 miligramos por día. La proteína de THP es sintetizada en el riñón por una glucosilfosfatidilinositol (GPI), anclada a glicoproteínas de membrana, en el segmento proximal del asa de Henle, la glicoproteína es liberada por una proteasa específica.
La estructura primaria de uromodulin es de 616 aminoacidos, tiene un peso molecular de 85- 90 kDa en SDS-PAGE, tiene propiedades inmunosupresoras
in vitro, es capaz de inhibir la hemaglutinacion viral, esta altamente glicosilada, el 30% de su masa es carbohidrato, la secuencia de aminoácidos esta codificada por uno de los exones del gen de uromodulin, que es un gen homologo del receptor de lipoproteínas de baja densidad y al precursor del factor de crecimiento epidérmico.
