Osteonecrosis de los maxilares asociada a bifosfonatos en pacientes con cáncer

RESUMEN
Se presenta un estudio epidemiológico sobre la frecuencia de osteonecrosis de los maxilares asociada a la utilización de bifosfonatos en pacientes con cáncer. La información fue obtenida de la base de datos del Hospital Central “Dr. Ignacio Morones Prieto” de San Luis Potosí en el periodo comprendido de 1998 a 2006. Durante este periodo se administraron bifosfonatos a 50 pacientes con diagnósticos de cáncer de mama, próstata y mieloma múltiple, y sólo 7 (14%) de ellos presentaron osteonecrosis mandibular. El Ácido Zoledrónico fue el causante más frecuente de esta patología con 4 (57%) casos.
