RESUMEN

El embarazo ectópico es la emergencia que se presenta con más frecuencia durante el primer trimestre del embarazo. Los aumentos en la disponibilidad y uso de nuevos marcadores hormonales asociado con los avances en la ultrasonografía han cambiado el enfoque diagnóstico en una paciente con sangrado y dolor en el primer trimestre de embarazo. Los métodos de elección para el correcto diagnóstico son el ultrasonido y la cuantificación de β-hCG. El tratamiento apropiado para pacientes con embarazo ectópico no roto puede incluir el manejo expectante, manejo médico con metotrexate o la cirugía. El tratamiento quirúrgico es apropiado si se sospecha el embarazo ectópico roto y si la paciente se encuentra hemodinámicamente inestable.
