Accidentes con material punzocortante en trabajadores de la salud. Una situación digna de ser revisada

RESUMEN
El hospital es área de riesgo tanto para pacientes como para trabajadores, ambas poblaciones, por el solo hecho de encontrarse en ese ambiente, se ven sujetas a diferentes tipos de contingencias.
Los Trabajadores De la Salud (TDS) están expuestos a diversos riesgos profesionales:los laborales del tipo biológico y los derivados de accidentes con material punzocortante (AMPC) son los más frecuentes entre los trabajadores de los centros hospitalarios, mientras que los riesgos que con mayor temor se enfrentan a contraer son infecciones por VHB, VHC y VIH. Existen múltiples reportes de los esfuerzos realizados en el mundo por proteger a los TDS de este problema.
Se cuenta con una serie de recomendaciones internacionales para la prevención de AMPC, entre las más importantes destacan la aplicación de las precauciones estándar que sugieren los CDC y la utilización de material punzocortante de seguridad.
En México existen escasos y aislados reportes de los esfuerzos por controlar esta situación, por lo que se considera necesario impulsar una cultura de prevención, haciendo concientes en primer lugar a los propios trabajadores de los hospitales acerca de los riesgos a los que se enfrentan.
