FRAGMENTO

La biopsia por aspiración con aguja delgada (BAAD) en adultos, se ha usado desde hace muchos años en Europa como método diagnóstico preliminar de las neoplasias. En niños su práctica ha sido más limitada, debido en parte, a que la estirpe de los tumores embrionarios, frecuentes en este grupo de edad, es difícil definir en base exclusivamente citomorfológica. Sin embargo, la utilidad del método va más allá del diagnóstico original de una neoplasia primaria, ya que además puede corroborar la presencia de recurrencia o metástasis, así como identificar procesos inflamatorios. Las ventajas de este procedimiento son múltiples pues se trata de un procedimiento que no requiere preparación especial ni equipo especializado, sobre todo en el caso de masas superficiales y que se puede realizar en el consultorio. En los casos de neoplasias profundas se requiere una guía con imagen, sea ultrasonografía o tomografía computada, pero también requiere mucho menos preparativos si se compara con biopsias a cielo abierto o por trucut.
