Infecciones en humanos por bacterias anaerobias del género Bacteroides: actualización en aspectos taxonómicos, bioquímicos, inmunológicos, patogénicos y clínicos

RESUMEN
Las bacterias anaerobias más frecuentemente aisladas a partir de muestras clínicas se clasifican en el género
Bacteroides. En esta revisión, se pretende realizar una actualización breve sobre los cuadros clínicos asociados con cepas de este género, la epidemiología de sus infecciones, los principales factores de virulencia y mecanismos patogénicos descritos para este grupo bacteriano, generalidades acerca de su aislamiento, identificación, caracterización y taxonomía y una pequeña descripción sobre el manejo terapéutico. Además, se aportan aspectos novedosos sobre la inmunología del hospedero y la interacción de estas bacterias con el humano. Con esta contribución, se espera brindar fundamentos teóricos para que los profesionales en salud e investigadores latinoamericanos consideren a las bacterias del género
Bacteroides en sus diagnósticos presuntivos; asimismo, incentivar el desarrollo de la bacteriología anaerobia clínica en América Latina.
