Evaluación nutricional de adolescentes. 3. Composición corporal

RESUMEN
Se presenta una discusión teórico-metodológica sobre las formas de estudiar la composición corporal en adolescentes mediante antropometría, con la cual es posible identificar a los sujetos con depleción u obesidad. Primero se describe el uso de los pliegues subcutáneos tricipital y subescapular como indicadores de depósitos de grasa. Después se presentan las ecuaciones para estimar el área grasa del brazo, la circun-ferencia muscular del brazo y el área muscular del brazo. Finalmente se revisan ecuaciones para predecir la densidad corporal o el porcentaje de grasa corporal a partir de mediciones antropométricas (pliegues, circunferencias). Respecto a estas ecuaciones se presenta su fundamento teórico, las ecuaciones reportadas en la literatura, criterios para elegir cuál es la fórmula adecuada, el punto de corte sugerido para este indicador y sus limitaciones.
