Diabetes. Tratamiento nutricional

RESUMEN
La diabetes es una enfermedad crónica, no trasmisible, con predisposición hereditaria y factores ambientales que favorecen su incidencia. La correcta composición de la dieta es importante porque promueve el mantenimiento metabólico óptimo con concentraciones de glucosa cercanas a las normales. Este artículo revisa los aspectos relacionados con el tratamiento nutricional de la diabetes, los objetivos de la dieta y el aporte de energía, macronutrimentos y micronutrimentos que satisfagan los requerimientos de acuerdo con la edad y el estado fisiológico para prevenir, retardar o tratar las complicaciones agudas, intermedias o crónicas de la enfermedad.
