Ecocardiografía transesofágica en anestesia y reanimación.

RESUMEN
Aunque el uso de la vía esofágica en ecocardiografía data de 1976, sólo desde hace 15 años se ha impuesto progresivamente como una técnica de diagnóstico y de monitorización en anestesia y reanimación. Disponible en forma rápida y fácil la ecocardiografía transesofágica (ETE) dispone actualmente de todas las tecnologías de sondas de superficie. Las contraindicaciones a la exploración son raras y las complicaciones excepcionales. Todas las estructuras cardíacas se visualizan a partir de cuatro planos de corte fundamentales. Las indicaciones son múltiples: evaluación de la función ventricular izquierda global (precarga, postcarga, cantractilidad) y segmentaria; evaluación de las presiones, volúmenes y contractilidad ventricular derecha; interés a nivel operatorio en numerosas especialidades quirúrgicas; utilización en reanimación para el diagnóstico de las insuficiencias circulatorias agudas y de las hipoxemias y en el estudio de las personas con traumatismos torácicos y con embolias arteriales. La mayor utilización de la ecocardiográfia en anestesia y reanimación plantea la cuestión de una formación específica en esta técnica por parte de los médicos.
