RESUMEN
El registro de vídeo-EEG es fundamental en el diagnóstico de episodios
paroxísticos con sospecha de crisis epilépticas, alcanzando una eficacia
diagnóstica de alrededor del 80%. Sin embargo, la finalidad diagnóstica
no es la única cuando se habla de vídeo-EEG y en la actualidad nadie se
plantea una cirugía de la epilepsia sin una monitorización de vídeo-EEG
previa. En este trabajo se revisan las bases de su funcionamiento, las
indicaciones para su utilización, su rendimiento como elemento
diagnóstico y su utilidad en la evaluación prequirúrgica de pacientes
con epilepsia. Se concluye que un sistema de monitorización de vídeo-EEG
debe incluirse dentro del funcionamiento de un hospital como una prueba
neurofisiológica habitual y no excepcional.
