Cambios en los islotes pancreáticos maternos después de la lactancia

RESUMEN
Los islotes pancreáticos se adaptan ante diferentes demandas metabólicas y cambios
hormonales a través de la modificación en su tamaño y secreción hormonal. Existe poca
información acerca de los islotes pancreáticos maternos y el metabolismo de la glucosa
materna después de la lactancia. Nuestro equipo de trabajo examinó la morfología de
los islotes maternos y la homeostasis de la glucosa después de la lactancia en ratones
de la cepa C57BL/6. Después de la lactancia, se encontró un incremento en el tamaño
de los islotes y la proliferación de los islotes materno. También se modificó la secreción
de insulina, tolerancia a la glucosa y sensibilidad a la insulina. Estos resultados abren
un nuevo campo de oportunidades para la identificación de moléculas y mecanismos
que participen en estos procesos y que ayuden en el desarrollo de estrategias para
combatir la diabetes.
