Efectos Intergeneracionales de las Redes Sociales en la Percepción de la Imagen Corporal

RESUMEN
Una de las consecuencias de la pandemia es que a lo largo de 2020 las interacciones virtuales reemplazaron
a las interacciones cara a cara. Si bien hay pocos estudios sobre cómo las redes sociales afectan
la percepción de la imagen corporal en todos los géneros, la investigación sugiere que socializar a
través de una imagen virtual del propio cuerpo podría tener distintas implicaciones para hombres y
mujeres. En un estudio online, fue examinado si el tipo de presión social y el ideal corporal (evaluado a
través del cuestionario SATAQ-4R) ejercen presiones distintas sobre los miembros de las generaciones
X, Y y Z. La presión de los medios afectó la satisfacción con la imagen corporal significativamente más
que otros tipos de presión social en todos los géneros y generaciones, y los hombres jóvenes reportaron
un mayor impacto en comparación con los hombres mayores. Los hombres experimentaron más
presión para ser musculosos y las mujeres por tener un cuerpo atractivo en general, especialmente
para la generación más joven. La investigación futura debe centrarse en las redes sociales como una
herramienta de intervención potencial para la detección y prevención de trastornos de la imagen corporal
tanto en mujeres jóvenes como en hombres adultos.
