Ruptura del tendón del cuádriceps

RESUMEN
Las lesiones traumáticas del mecanismo extensor de la rodilla causan mucha incapacidad física, dolencia en la cual se encuentran las que afectan al tendón del cuádriceps. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de esta temática, con el objetivo de profundizar y actualizar los elementos más significativos. Se mencionan los aspectos anatómicos más importantes en la composición del tendón y la vascularidad. Se hace referencia al mecanismo de producción y los factores predisponentes a la ruptura. Se exponen los métodos imagenológicos para el diagnóstico, así como las modalidades de tratamiento y principales complicaciones. Las rupturas del cuádriceps son lesiones traumáticas incapacitantes de la extremidad inferior, donde se conjugan principalmente el mecanismo de producción de tipo indirecto y de factores que predisponen su presencia. Las manifestaciones clínicas varían en las lesiones parciales o totales, así como las modalidades de tratamiento, entre las que predomina la quirúrgica.
