ABSTRACT
Objective: To report a case of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage and microscopic polyarteritis.Design: Case report.
Setting: ICU of a private hospital, Monterrey, Mexico.
Patient: A 45-yr-old patient with dysnea, cough and pulmonary patchy infiltrates.
Interventions: Bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, pulmonary biopsies, chest tube insertion, assisted mechanical ventilation and use of plasmapheresis, cyclophosphamide and steroids.
Results: Positive ANCAs (c, p), diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, vasculitis of small vessels and capillaries of the lungs was reported. The course of the illness was satisfactory and the patient was discharged to home.
Conclusion: An inusual case of polyarteritis was diagnosed on the basis of positive ANCAs and hystological study of lungs.
