ABSTRACT
Infections affect hundreds of millions of people worldwide and it is a major global problem for patient safety. Proper hand washing becomes vitally important to decrease the possibility of infection transmission by medical and nursing personnel. For these reasons, this paper aims to comment on the main theoretical elements that justify that proper hand washing prevents nosocomial infections. It was concluded that washing hands after contact with patients is an obstacle to bacterial spread, especially from one patient to another, and therefore prevents nosocomial infections, so common in our hospitals.REFERENCES
