ABSTRACT
Patients with coarctation of the aorta can be treated either with surgery or with balloon angioplasty. So far, none study had compared the two methods. Differents papers shows a limited experience with each procedure. The aim of this study is to evaluate our results and those from the literature. We can conclude that angioplasty alone may produce restenosis and aneurysm. Surgery has low risk but can produce paraplegia and higher morbidity. Stent placement has better results and is, nowadays, the indication of choice. Intravascular stent placement for native and recurrent coarctation of the aorta in the adult patient has excellent results in the short and intermediate terms. Long term outcome remains to be evaluated.
