ABSTRACT
Introduction: The global SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic affects all countries in the world.
Objective: To describe the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cuba, in the first 60 days.
Methods: A descriptive study was carried out about the behavior of COVID-19. The studied variables were the total number of infected and deceased patients and the breakdown by sex and age groups. Contingency tables were used and Duncan's multiple comparison test was applied. Regression models were fitted.
Results: In the first 60 days after the arrival of the COVID-19 virus in Cuba, 1 804 citizens were infected, the majority Cubans. The quadratic model that explained the number of infected patients, showed that in 35 days, the highest values of infections were presented and that this indicator subsequently decreased. The percentages were similar between men and women and higher in the 40 to 59 age group. With no discharges in the first 20 days, in the last 10 days this indicator increased due to the effectiveness of the applied treatments, the number of discharges was higher than the number of infected patients.
Conclusions: The analysis of the epidemiological indicators in Cuba, during the first 60 days, confirmed that the measures taken by the National Health System and the government, with the collaboration of citizens and the rest of the organizations, achieved the recovery of this pandemic, in a short time, compared to the situation observed in other countries of the world.
