ABSTRACT
Introduction: Mortality is a quality indicator of the assistance that the medical services provide.Objective: To describe some characteristics of the mortality of the service of internal medicine at ¨Aleida Fernández Chardiet¨ Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital.
Method: A descriptive, retrospective cross sectional study was carried out, in the Internal Medicine service at ¨Aleida Fernández Chardiet¨ Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in Güines, Mayabeque province from April 1st to December 31st, 2018. The universe was formed by 2 559 admitted patients in that service and the sample was formed by 79 patients who died. The information was obtained by the deceased registering book from the Statistics Department and from death certificates.
Results: General mortality prevailed in the male sex in the male sex for a 54.4 %. The older than 75 age group represented the 65.8 %. Respiratory sepsis represented a 26.5 %, followed by cerebrovascular diseases which represented a 17.7 % cause of death. There was clinical and pathological correlation in a 57.1 % and brute mortality was of 8.9%.
Conclusions: Mortality prevails in the oldest age groups, being the male sex the highest. There is a correlation between the cause of death according to Death Medical Certificates and the result of the necropsies in deceased patients. Brute mortality for this disease, decreases in the last year that has been analyzed.
