ABSTRACT
Microalbuminuria is a predictor of cardiovascular disease and mortality in adults. In infant population hast taken
interest because cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerotic process begins in childhood with consequences probably
in adulthood. In children is well described its importance in diabetes mellitus as marker to identify those that
probably develop renal impairment.
This article reviews the definition, patogenic mechanism in the glomerular filtration barrier and describes the importance
of microalbuminuria in infant population to evaluate renal impairment due to other diseases different to
diabetes mellitus.
