ABSTRACT
Among the complications secondary to the use of
polypropylene prostheses in the repair of groin hernias,
superficial and deep surgical site infection, mesh
migration, intestinal obstruction and perforation of
intra-abdominal viscera, the latter two being reported
anecdotally. This type of complications can occur at
different time intervals after hernioplasty. The purpose
of this article is to report a case of intestinal obstruction
secondary to mesh migration to the peritoneal cavity in a
previously asymptomatic patient undergoing left inguinal
hernioplasty 10 years prior to admission to the hospital.
