ABSTRACT
Influenza is a very contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses. It can infect the upper respiratory tract (nose and throat) or even infect the lower respiratory tract (lungs), causing severe pneumonia. The most important event about influenza was the “2009 H1N1” pandemic, caused by influenza A H1N1. Historic year that sparked a revolution in what was previously believed to be influenza, a very contagious infection with low mortality, and what today we consider one of the viral infections with greatest capacity of population damage. Historically in the Jalisco Delegation, the Regional General Hospital (HGR) 110, of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), since the beginning of the pandemic was documented until november 30, 2009, an increase in cases of atypical pneumonia was observed, with a clinical picture compatible with influenza, which required hospitalization and even admission to the Intensive Care Unit. Complications that arise from a viral influenza infection are many, they can become severe and even fatal; for this reason it will be necessary to know the population groups with the highest risk to present complications, emphasize in pregnant women, whom in our country represent a priority care group and forces us to sharpen our senses when we detect them. Encourage the timely start of antiviral therapy with Oseltamivir or Zanamivir, which improves the clinical outcome of a patient hospitalized for influenza. And note that the best way to treat influenza is to avoid complications, through primary vaccine prevention.REFERENCES
