ABSTRACT
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is a systemic, inflammatory, chronic disease of unknown cause that affects patients under 18 years of age. It is considered the most frequent autoimmune and rheumatic disease in children and adolescents. It covers several different subgroups and occurs predominantly as peripheral arthritis. The spectrum of the disease manifests itself through various clinical conditions. By definition, the onset of the disease is before the age of 16 and arthritis for more than 6 weeks are necessary criteria for diagnosis. The diagnosis is clinical and exclusion supported by laboratory studies that show an increase in acute phase reactants and imaging studies that show joint and synovial involvement. Disease-modifying drugs like methotrexate are the first-line therapy. Biological therapy is part of the new therapeutic options for this disease.REFERENCES
