ABSTRACT
Background: nursing professionals take part in the development of patterns, conceptual frameworks and theories to guide their professional practice, which has laid the foundation for future research in this field in compliance with one of their functions and ways of action. Objective: describe some variables on the scientific preparation of some Graduates in Nursing in primary health care, belonging to the University Polyclinic "Chiqui Gómez Lubián" in the city of Santa Clara, Villa Clara.
Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out from January to March 2020. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis method, induction-deduction method and historical-logical method; empirical methods: documentary analysis method and questionnaire survey method applied to nurses; and mathematical-statistical method for absolute and relative values.
Results: an experience of more than 10 years from this nursing staff, was determined. However, figures show a low level of knowledge in their scientific training, since only minority hold academic degrees such as masters, other are specialists and there is no doctor of science neither doctoral student in the above-mentioned institution; shortcomings in research skills and the lack of knowledge to publish in open access journals, are highlighted.
Conclusions: scientific training of professionals from primary health care nursing, was characterized; and deficiencies essentially due to low participation to postgraduate courses, were determined.
