ABSTRACT
Introduction: Covid-19 constitutes one of the greatest natural catastrophes in history. The University of Medical Sciences has the responsibility of organizing, controlling and evaluating this process of preparedness for confrontation with COVID-19 in the province of Holguín.Objectives: To describe the results in the preparation of personnel to confront COVID-19 at the University of Medical Sciences from Holguín.
Methods: Research study in the field of postgraduate education, in the period between February 3rd and June 12th, 2020. The universe was made up of health workers, students and workers from other institutions and organizations. The intended sample consisted of 34,432 health workers, 5,409 students and 172,900 workers from other institutions and organizations. Theoretical and empirical methods and statistical procedures were used.
Results: More than 99% of the planned health workers in primary and secondary health care in the province of Holguín were trained and certified during the three stages in the different topics according to the designed strategy. In addition, all the planned students who participated in the confrontation were trained. All the workers in the plan from other agencies and organizations were prepared.
Conclusions: The development of the training process for workers and students in the health sector, in other institutions, organizations and for self-employed workers linked to Tourism, at each stage, allowed preparation to confront COVID-19 in Holguín province.
