ABSTRACT
Clinical case description: A 71-year-old man that received injections
of mineral oil and a multivitamin complex in the subcutaneous
tissue and corpora cavernosa of the penis, for 8 months,
presented with penile deformity and progressive edema of the
dorsal region. He came to our hospital 4 days after the lesion
had been excised, presenting with necrosis of the penile skin and
purulent drainage, requiring resection and debridement of the
necrotic tissue.
Relevance: The unauthorized injection of substances into the
penis for cosmetic or sexual purposes has been on the rise in
recent years.
Clinical implications: Penile paraffinoma is a reaction caused by
the injection of foreign substances into the penis. Said injections
often produce complications that can appear months or years
after application and they can be life-threatening.
Conclusions: The injection of foreign substances into the subcutaneous
tissue of the penis can produce severe and devastating
complications. Opportune treatment and multidisciplinary management
are key to satisfactory patient progression.
