ABSTRACT
Hypertriglyceridemia is a common condition due to genetic alterations or primary and secondary to disease or medication. Its main cause is an unhealthy lifestyle that includes excessive consumption of food rich in carbohydrates and fats, lack of physical activity and heavy intake of alcoholic beverages, which is often accompanied by overweight and obesity. This literature review details the classification of hypertriglyceridemia, associated cardiovascular risk and therapeutic behavior with lifestyle modifications and lipid-lowering drugs such as statins, ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors, fibrates, omega-3 fatty acids and niacin; for this purpose, a critical review of the literature was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, MedicalKey and SciELO.REFERENCES
