ABSTRACT
Introduction: At present, mental disorders are described as a health problem worldwide, affecting 25% of the population in developed and underdeveloped countries; This research is aimed at identifying responses of the body to stress, anxiety and depression that affect the mental health of students in a Nursing program, which will serve as input for the successful design of different intervention strategies. Objective: To identify the level of depression, anxiety and stress in students of a Nursing program at a public university in Cúcuta, Colombia. Material and method: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, through a self-administered survey of 21 items of the DASS-21 Scale, by Lovibond and Lovibond, with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.93 for the total instrument, to a sample of 307 participants from I-VIII semester. Results: 65.1% were without depression, 59.5% without anxiety, and 39% without stress, as there was no obvious compromise of items in these dimensions; however, in the remaining proportion some level of stress, anxiety and depression was detected. Conclusions: Although the results show a low level of depression, anxiety and stress, the presence of these in students is alarming, an aspect that can generate complications that lead to severe compromises for the mental and physical health of students, worrying the authors about the existence of these conditions in the student population.REFERENCES
