ABSTRACT
Introduction: Participation of medical students in community intervention is aimed at achieving a strong link between primary health care and high-priority programs, with emphasis on the implementation of programs for the prevention and control of diseases transmitted by vectors. Objective: To evaluate the impact of the activities developed by medical students on community intervention for the prevention of arbovirosis. Material and Methods: A non-observational, quasi-experimental study with before/after measurement without control group was conducted in the doctor´s office number 8 of “René Vallejo” Polyclinic 3 in Manzanillo municipality from September 2017 to January 2018. The universe consisted of 378 houses and facilities. Samples were taken from 130 houses using an intentional non-probability sampling. Statistical analysis was carried out using statistical stadigraphs. Results: After the intervention, the control of the storage of the solid waste (85 %) was greater than the control obtained in those wastes with covered containers. Appropriate destruction of the possible sources of vectors increased 44 % after the intervention. The most common technique used by medical students was the education chat, representing a 60 %. Environmental health and hygiene was good in 68 % of the cases. Conclusions: Social impact was evaluated as positive using the educational strategy. After the intervention, the control of risk factors for the existence of the vector in the houses was demonstrated.REFERENCES
