ABSTRACT
Learning style preferences of individual students is seen as a potential way of improving curricular design and individual’s learning outcomes. These preferences are about the ways that they want to take-in and give-out information. The Index of Learning Styles (ILS) is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning preferences. ILS assesses preferences on four dimensions (active/reflective, sensing/intuitive, visual/verbal, and sequential/global) of learning style model. The spanish version was administered to 54 medical interns at Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez and Hospital General in Mexico City. Most of the students showed to prefer active, sensitive, visual and sequential styles accordingly with other international studies independently of the domain discipline. There was neither any difference about gender. Learning style models that categorize preferred and less preferred models of learning in medical students, can provide good framework for designing instruction. Helping students to build necessary cognitive skills based in their preferences will enhance effectiveness of the curriculum.
