ABSTRACT
Background: health promotion in the primary care settings requires training human resources to educate pregnant women, in order to guarantee the fulfillment of the objectives of the Maternal and Child Program, in Cuba. Objective: to determine the effectiveness of the training course for the training of maternal and child health promoters with a view to developing the Participatory Prenatal and Postnatal Childcare Program in the Ranchuelo municipality, Villa Clara.
Methods: a prospective assessment investigation was carried out, in 2019, of the six cycles of the training course, with a view to developing the Participatory Prenatal and Postnatal Childcare Program. Theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive, and empirical ones: survey in the form of a questionnaire and a performance test. The criteria of specialists method was requested for the evaluation of the product.
Results: the insufficient results obtained in the diagnostic test proved that those involved in the process of care for pregnant women were not prepared to develop health promotion and education actions. At the end of the training, the majority reached the third level of assimilation based on methods that promoted active pedagogy, which generated a meaningful learning to modify risk behaviors in pregnant women.
Conclusions: the effectiveness of the training is evidenced in the level of assimilation achieved by the participants, which accredits them as promoters of maternal and child health to develop the Participatory Prenatal and Postnatal Childcare Program.
