ABSTRACT
Renal cell carcinoma is the most common subtype of kidney cancer. It
represents an expansive growth, where it can invade or displace its
capsule, thus causing invasion of venous structures. In this way, the renal
tumor would be called "tumor thrombus" with a predominance of the inferior
vena cava. The compromise of the inferior vena cava can be basically due
to two types. The first corresponds to the occupation by tumor thrombus of
the lumen of the vessel, and the second to the invasion and infiltration of the
vascular wall itself. This differentiation is essential when making surgical
decisions and defining therapeutic management.
