ABSTRACT
Cardiovascular diseases constitute the leading cause of death in Cuba, 64.9% of which is caused by ischemic heart disease, of which 45.3% is due to acute myocardial infarction. Performing an adequate risk stratification in the patient with a heart attack helps to limit the extent and severity of the irreversible myocardial lesion, which is why it is considered a useful tool to reduce hospital and monthly mortality of patients with heart attack. A search was performed using the ClinicalKey, Medline Complete, EBSCO, Pubmed, Hinari, SciELO search engines on risk stratification in patients with acute myocardial infarction. The objectives and importance of risk stratification, evolution, aspects of interest and the most significant variables are presented. A comparison is made of the risk score that have been used most in the world in recent years, in addition to explaining the characteristics for which the ideal score has not yet been found, exemplifying the main problems presented by the current scales. The importance of creating a risk score in Cuba is analyzed, which serves to homogenize stratification.
