ABSTRACT
The inflammation phenomenon begins when there are disturbances of cellular and
tissue homeostasis. The recognition of pathogen or damage in cells and tissues trigger
a response that involves physiological and pathological mechanisms, especially of the
immune system. Despite the molecular basis of inflammation is well described, in
diseases with chronic and pro-inflammatory processes, such as the lead intoxication
is not fully known. Therefore, it is necessary to study these processes to understand
the pathology and its complications. In the present work we explain the molecular
pathways of the inflammatory cascade, from the agent or damage recognition, the
pathway of cytokines release, vascular and cellular effects, to the inflammation
resolution. Also, we described the effects that the lead exposure has over elements
of the inflammatory and immune response, it is reported in exposed populations and
lead exposed workers.
