ABSTRACT
An observational and descriptive study was conducted of cases between January 1 and December 31 of 2011, which included 86 patients discharged from the Coronary Intensive Care Unit of the "Saturnino Lora" Provincial Hospital diagnosed with Acute Infarction. of Myocardium in ages between 45 and 59 years with the objective of characterizing them according to selected epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic and evolutionary variables. Male sex, smoking, hypertension, increased body mass index and hyperlipidemia were the most frequent risk factors with incidence greater than 50%. Prevalence of Acute Coronary Syndrome with ST elevation; 67 patients, 77.9%; and the inferior topography, 32 cases; 37.2%. Patients with a normal Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction, 64 cases, predominated; 74.4% and those without complications, 68 patients; 79.1%. Patients between 45 and 59 years with Acute Myocardial Infarction could constitute an independent group, apparently with a favorable evolution.
