Results of the project related to a didactic strategy for the understanding of the mathematical contents

ABSTRACT
In the preparatory course of the Latin American School of Medicine, we work with non-Spanish-speaking students who show learning difficulties. The Mathematics faculty in order to improve the teaching-learning process of its subject and the contribution to the development of the communicative competence in the Spanish language designed a didactic strategy for the improvement of the understanding of the mathematical contents. A descriptive observational study was carried out with high school students and mathematics teachers from the 2016-2017 academic year to December 2018. On the basis of the materialistic dialectical method, theoretical, empirical and statistical methods were used to deepen the object study, define concepts, operationalize and measure variables, summarize, characterize students and teachers according to the indicators and assess the results. Among the results are a definition of understanding the mathematical contents with their levels, a diagnostic instrument that measures mastery of the mathematical contents and their levels, teaching tasks for different levels of understanding, a glossary of terms and worksheets with voice, the WebMate page, four discussion forums, a didactic strategy with actions for teachers, students and a group according to type of classes. He participated in national and international events and made 14 publications with the main results in memoirs and impact journals and seven teachers changed their teaching category. The didactic strategy applied enabled the overcoming of the cloister and the incorporation of students as researchers and demonstrated its viability for the understanding of mathematical content for non-Spanish-speaking students.REFERENCES
