ABSTRACT
Objective: to describe Zika cases by age groups, sex and symptoms and to analyze those confirmed by doctor’s
offices, as well as b y months, suspected and confirmed cases.
Methods: a descriptive investigation was carried out to characterize the suspected and confirmed Zika cases
in the 26 de Julio Polyclinic from January to December 2017. The universe included all the suspected cases in
the health area during the period and the sample consisted of the cases that were confirmed as positive. The
data were taken from statistical reports and epidemiological surveys, which became the primary record of the
investigation.
Results: in the study prevailed the female patients and the age group from 20 to 44 years in both sexes.
The most common symptoms were rash, pruritus and arthralgias or myalgias and the medical offices with the
highest risk for the transmission of the disease were 6,13 and 14. January, March, May and September were the
months with the highest incidence of presentation of the infection b y the virus.
Conclusions: Zika virus infection in our area had a differential behavior in terms of sex and age group. The
patients showed a group of symptoms that manifested themselves more frequently than others. Medical offices
that have a high risk for the transmission of the disease were detected and it was determined that during the
year there are months in which the incidence of the infestation becomes more evident in the whole area.
