ABSTRACT
Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and cervical adenitis
syndrome (PFAPA) is a common type of relapsing fever in infants.
Treatment options include: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
cimetidine, steroids, colchicine, and tonsillectomy. Colchicine acts as a
modulator of the immune system, without producing immunosuppression,
and is the prophylactic treatment of choice in PFAPA, reducing the duration
and intensity of febrile attacks and increasing the interval between eisodes.
