ABSTRACT
Introduction: Public health is one of the main achievements of the Cuban Revolution.Objective: To disseminate the reviews and results of the interviews that narrate the experiences and testimonies of personalities and specialists of the health system, about the most relevant aspects of the practice of Cuban public health in the period 1980-1995 and the role of the Commander in Boss in them.
Methods: An investigation was conducted where the historical method was applied, which used the analysis and bibliographic synthesis, induction, deduction and inference. As techniques: the documentary review and the interview with knowledgeable actors and witnesses. From a group of experts, the documents and people who testify their inspiration and participation in health policy and strategy at that stage were identified, at which time the nation went through the so-called Special Period.
Results: This work summarizes the interviews in which the experiences and testimonies of personalities of the health system, on thinking, approach and strategy, in Health are narrated.
Conclusions: The political will of the Commander in Chief and the Cuban State was revealed, not only to preserve the health of the Cuban population, but to make Cuba a medical power and of this, health care as the basic principle of the Revolution, with emphasis on strengthening and development of the Health System.
