ABSTRACT
Introduction: a sequence of favorable eruption plays an important role in obtaining a harmonious occlusion, and one of the factors that influences dental eruption is an adequate nutrition. Objective: evaluating the alteration in the sprout order of the lower jaw permanent central incisor and its relation with the nutritional status.
Method: a cross-sectional study was carried out, from January 2018 to January 2019, in four municipalities of Holguín province (Banes, Cacocum, Rafael Freyre and Holguín). The universe was made up of children between 5 and 8 years old, and the purposive sample, 1 575 children. Children whose parents or legal guardians gave their informed consent were included. Children with congenital diseases that influence dental sprout or missing permanent teeth were excluded. An exam of the oral cavity was made. Weight and size were measured. The information was compiled in record cards.
Results: children between 5.0 and 5.11 years old, 29.5%, showed the first lower permanent molar, while 34.09%, had the central incisor. With normal and advanced dental sprout, 270 and 186 children were found in the 3rd percentile, while children that had dental late sprout were: 5 in the second, and 2 in the first percentile. The lower central incisor sprout and the nutritional status were associated (p 0.004).
Conclusions: there was alteration in the sprout order of the lower permanent incisor in relation to the first molar. The connection between the sprout order of the central incisor and the nutritional status was significant.
