Some of the fundamental purposes of dental clinical photography is to obtain a record of the clinical manifestations of the oral cavity (which favors the medical-legal documentation), the diagnosis and treatment plan, the scientific communication, the teaching practice, the communication between specialists of the field and also with the dental laboratory, the understanding of the patients of the current state and the treatment options; on the other hand, it helps marketing and service promotion. The photographs have become an essential document in dentistry. Lack of knowledge about the technique, equipment, and advances have limited its proper use. It is necessary to have the knowledge about its use to obtain the advantages that intra-oral and extra-oral photography can offer. Knowledge is necessary based on the basic principles of photography, knowing the equipment, accessories, lighting, configurations, editing, purpose of use, printing, documentation and publication.REFERENCES
