ABSTRACT
With the advances in the medical field a set of new
social and legal factors have emerged, forcing health
providers to reconsider their medical practice. New
expectations from medical providers and patients
exceed the classical objectives of medical attention.
Few years ago the treatment against breast cancer
was mastectomy, with or without radiation therapy.
Now with a better understanding of the disease, with
better drugs and with a less invasive surgical technique
(lumpectomy), the quality of life after treating the
disease is one of the most important factors. It is well
known that a mastectomy brings depression, anxiety,
shame, lack of confidence and suicidal ideas affecting
the patient’s quality of life. It’s of great importance to
provide a holistic treatment, taking in consideration
the results that may affect patient satisfaction and
quality of life.
